Wikipedia now has Wikiquote (it may not be new, but I just found it)...it is a great online reference for quotes from famous works of art, tv, and movies. Here are a few fun things I found while I was there...
Seinfeld
Elaine: Can you spare a square?
Kramer: Who's gonna turn down a Junior Mint? It's chocolate, it's peppermint - it's delicious!
Ayn Rand
"I swear by my life, and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine."
Source: Atlas Shrugged
"What is greatness? I will answer: it is the capacity to live by the three fundamental values of John Galt: reason, purpose, self-esteem." Ayn Rand Source: Playboy Interview (March 1964)
(I thought the fact that she did a Playboy Interview was pretty interesting...)
Ernest Hemingway
A bottle of wine was good company.
The Sun Also Rises (1926)
Then there is the other secret. There isn't any symbolysm [sic]. The sea is the sea. The old man is an old man. The boy is a boy and the fish is a fish. The shark are all sharks no better and no worse. All the symbolism that people say is shit. What goes beyond is what you see beyond when you know.
Letter to Bernard Berenson (13 September 1952); published in Ernest Hemingway : Selected Letters 1917-1961 (1981) edited by Carlos Baker
Maynard James Keenan
And I looked up Tool just for my honey - I am sure these quotes will make more sense to him, but I find them somewhat funny...
We were backstage playing Monopoly and totally forgot there was a show. This is Justin, our new bass player. He's from England, so he kinda smells bad.
Princess Bride
The King's stinking son fired me, and thank you so much for bringing up such a painful subject. While you're at it, why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it? We're closed! Miracle Max
I do not envy you the headache you will have when you awake. Until then, rest well and dream of large women.
to an unconscious Fezzik - Westley
It is described in the title. Simple observations about life and my thoughts of the crazy world we live in.

Chicago and Other Updates

Well J and I had a great time in Chicago. We went to see the King Tut exhibit at the Natural History Museum, took a little boat ride on the Lake Michigan, and of course watched the Astro's beat the Cubs. I say of course only because I have yet to see the Astro's lose. It's not wonder he wants me to move to Texas...he just wants me to watch more baseball so his team wins more games. The funny part of this is that I really am not a baseball fan. I don't mind it, but lets just say it isn't a sport I seek out on my 5 stations of antenna fun.
When we arrived back in Iowa we went on a little hike with my dogs into the Loess Hills it was a good time until (enter scary Twilight Zone noise here) we were leaving and I was like oh s&!* there is a tick on my shoe, so I got out of my car and removed it with a tissue. J was like oh I should check my shoes...low and behold poor little Texan had 3 ticks sucking his blood. I thought it was pretty funny. We had to check out the boys when we got home too, but a few ticks removed and we were all the better. The following day we went out on a canoe (I should mention we really aren't outdoorsey people) to Arrowhead "Lake" not bad, the lake is kind of a small pond, but lucky for us we brought Cheeze It's which entertained us and the birds on the "lake".
Other than that we had a great time on J's little visit to Iowa. As always it was hard to let him go and we are working on a way that we can both live in the same state...what a novel idea.
On the job front there isn't much to tell. I have the "tremendous opportunity" in the words on my temp agency to do outbound phone calls to cable customers who "may" want to update their service. It's only a week and a half. I think I will manage to make it through, but really "tremendous opportunity" who are these freaks...I consider myself an intelligent person. My qualifications exceed most people who go there why can't they just be straight with me? Just tell me the job and what it pays don't try to sell it to me. I don't give a crap really I just want a paycheck. Better than this job was when they called me in for another amazing opportunity...great way to get my foot in the door...good insight into a large corporation. I get there and they are going through their spechel again about how great this opportunity is when I finally stop him and explain "I worked at Mutual of Omaha for a couple years, and wasn't exactly a peon when my job was abolished, and yes there was a beautiful package offered for saying goodbye". Let's just say that wasn't the temp job for me... I didn't hear back from the agency on that one :-).
Last update I'm working on quitting smoking. I haven't bought a pack in more than a week and have basically cut back to smoking a few when I'm drinking. That is the plan. So far so good, but we will see I miss it some and I've been cheating here and there...one step at a time I suppose.
