I absolutely loved this book. I enjoy looking as stats anyway, they are an interesting way to see how things change and what the majority and minorities are doing. Ok let me just come out and say it I'm a geek and I know it...
Levitt and Dubner make some pretty shocking statements in this book about legalizing abortion, drugs and gangs, and parenting. I think the main thing that I took from this book was that it supported my thoughts on the power of the media. They twist and explode stats to cause people to panic and make decisions based on weak correlations and unjustified statistics gained from studies that lack appropriate research and support.
This book could have went on forever. Especially with writers who have the guts to say what everyone else is thinking when they look at the numbers, but are too afraid to point out. It's an easy read and I'd suggest it to anyone as a great book. If you know me your more then welcome to borrow it, but there is a short waiting list :-).
Thanks for the book A!
The book I've just begun...Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking Malcolm Gladwell
It is described in the title. Simple observations about life and my thoughts of the crazy world we live in.

Long sh!tty Day!
Low Points:
The all time low point for the year I think...I guess that means tomorrow will be much better...scheduled my scope today it's for Tuesday. So this goes out to all you people who think it's great to be single. Imagine having to ask you mother if she can stay over if necessary because after your big day at the hospital you can not stay home alone. It is extremely depressing. If you've never been there then it's not worth trying to explain, and please don't try to pretend that you know what it's like... I'm not trying to be mean I'm just frustrated and I'm explaining in advance that it's not on my list of things to hear.
Annoying day at work-we can no longer wear jeans on Friday's when we are in training. Considering we are in a casual work environment this is high on my list of things to b!tch about.
Apparently Gimli (my dog) was injured in a minor scuffle with something in the house or Chance (my other dog). He's got a scrape on his poor little face and I got to come home to the joy of cleaning him up and putting some medicine on him.
High Points:
Went shopping (of course what else can a girl do when she's depressed) and got a few things namely, a new book and a few items from VS which usually cheers me up, but didn't really seem to do the trick this time. Just finished Freakonomics and loved it I'll write more about that tomorrow.
Had dinner at Hu Hot with my Pops.
Seriously this week can get over at any time now!!!

Fun with Photos

Ok after reading some Ansel Adams quotes I felt inclined to share some of my pictures from my recent trip to Dublin. I meant to do this ages ago, but hadn't gotten around to it.
This one is from Malahide Marina.
Ok the more I look at this picture the more I like it...I think this may have home framing potential.
Quote of the Week 10-2-05
Ok so I've become attached to this quote and it's now one of my favories, so I thought I'd put it as a post because I'm too lazy to write it in my journal.
"The only thing that makes life possible is permanent, intolerable uncertainty; not knowing what comes next." Ursula K. LeGuin

The Garden is Gone!
Well fall is here and winter is rearing it's ugly head before long, so we made the executive decision that we could handle no more tomatoes and the garden was going down. 17 Lawn and Leaf Bags later the garden is empty. It's kind of sad to see nothing growing back there, but is also a bit of a relief that I no longer have to go out there and pick stuff that will sit on my counter and I will never eat. I'm only one little girl I can only handle so many tomatoes and I forget to take them to work to give away.
I also made a trip to the Dr. today boy was that a great time. UGH! The inevitable has happened I'm to be scheduled for a stomach scope thinger. I knew it was coming and I'm sure that they won't find anything, but if they do at least I will have a reason for feeling like crap. I'm sure that this is going to cost me a good chunk of change. I'm sick of spending my money on doctor bills. I'm mildly freaked out she said that they would put me in a "twilight sleep" I think that means they are going to almost put me out...who knows, but at least this time I don't have to drink any disgusting chalky substance and roll over a million times on an x-ray table.

Drink Me, I'm Fun
Wine has been fun forever it's just pretentious people that want to take the fun out of it! I've been drinking a lot more wine lately and I have to admit that the label is sometimes what draws me to a bottle of wine. This isn't the best way to pick it, but you don't know unless you try. So far I've had pretty good luck with only one bottle of wine that I really could have lived without. The point is who isn't a little more fun after a few glasses of wine with good company...why can't the wineries have this same kind of fun when decorating their bottles.
I'm not sure why Karen's link didn't work in the comment section, but here it is now :-)

A Problem in the Brain - ADHD
A Problem in the Brain is correct...American's have serious problems in their brains!!!! I didn't even have to read the article before I became instantly annoyed at our societies quick drug fix for everything. I especially like the man who believes he has ADHD, but only needs it on some days. Or the brilliant psychiatrist who labeled an entire family ADHD. Are you serious? 3.5 million children are on this medicine. I have to wonder how many are in the USA versus other countries. Why because when we don't want to learn how to work with our children we drug them? I'm not saying that there aren't kids and adults who suffer from ADHD, but these drugs are overprescibed because as a society we do not want to take the time to address problems in the proper way. We take a group of symptoms and find the best drug to relieve them. I wonder what simple excercise and diet changes would do for some of these children and adults. It would be an interesting study wouldn't it?
